Green's Automotive Ltd started in 1953 as a family owned and operated business and still runs that way today. From our humble beginnings as a hot rod shop we have developed into a successful wheel repair & refinishing business.
Founded in 1953, Green's Automotive Ltd started out as a small hot rod shop in a backyard on Main Street. Owner-operator Blackie Green was an entrepreneur who was well-known in the automotive industry for his innovative ideas. In the 1960's Blackie outgrew his backyard operation and moved his shop to larger premises on Granville street. His new shop featured the first automatic car wash in Vancouver which became something of a legend because Blackie designed and built it from scratch. The 1960’s was also the start of a long working relationship between Blackie and his son Bob.
In the late 1970's the automotive industry started to change. The hot rod business started to slow down and the wheel repair business started to take off. The shop moved again and in 1978 relocated to downtown Richmond. The Greens, already familiar with wheel repair procedures thought if we can straighten and custom modify steel wheels for race cars we can do the same for import and exotic cars and trucks as well.
Blackie and Bob worked together to develop more efficient and effective procedures for repairing and refinishing wheels. They bought specialized equipment, hired more help, and developed their own custom machinery. In August 1981 Blackie passed away and left the thriving business in the capable hands of his son. Over the next decade the shop continued to grow and advance in the wheel industry. They constantly acquired the newest technology in computerized lathes, tire machines, welders, and polishing equipment. In keeping with the tradition of being a family business, the shop counted Bob's wife Elaine, son Brad, and daughter Jaime among the employees.
In the late 1990's the shop moved once again and settled into a new development on Gordon Way in East Richmond, where it remains today. After more than 55 years the shop continues to thrive and continues Blackie's tradition of innovation and continous improvement. We constantly invest in better machinery, employment opportunities and new technology. Our latest improvements include introduction of the revolutionary "chrome paint technology", a new CNC lathe, and a 4,000 square foot expansion.
